25. Insertion of Cartilage Framework

The pocket for the cartilage framework was created through an anterior incision by undermining 1.5 cm past the marking made by the positioner. Remnant cartilage was also removed at this point. The framework was placed in the pocket using the location and inclination determined by the microtia surgical positioner. Finally, suction drainage was started, gauze coated with petroleum jelly was packed into the convolutions of the reconstructed auricle, and a mastoid dressing was applied.
