9. Prototype Ear Sculpture

An ear sculpture was created from wax using the shape of the contralateral ear. Using the baseplate as a foundation, the artist then created an aesthetically pleasing wax sculpture of an ear to fit the patients defect site and resemble the patient’s existing contralateral normal ear. Since most patients with unilateral microtia also have some degree of hemifacial microsomia, this ear sculpture was slightly smaller than the contralateral ear to better fit the smaller proportions on that side of the face.
