2. Photographs

The patient was a 21 year old woman with a left ear deformity since birth. Examination of her left mastoid region showed complete absence of the external auditory canal and all auricular structures except a lobule remnant and a 3x5mm cartilaginous tissue island posterior to the tempomandibular joint and superior to the remnant lobule. She was not interested in a contralateral routing of sound (CROS) hearing aid or a bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA); however, she requested auricular reconstruction.

Preoperative photographs were taken of the microtic ear and her other ear.
