7. Prototype Baseplate

Creation of the baseplate began by applying a coat of wax to the auricular defect site to capture the unique contours of the defect site and to provide a base on which to sculpt the ear. The borders of the wax baseplate extended until stability and reproducibility of positioning was assured; which was well beyond the borders of the proposed ear size and encompassing all remnant parts of the microtic ear. The artist then developed this portion of the prototype into a thick stable plate of wax.
