15. Mold Boxing

Although the wax prototype was a functional and reliable positioner, wax as a material is not durable enough to be used in the operating room. This wax form must be recreated in acrylic, a strong material that can be disinfected for a sterile surgical procedure. A three piece silicone mold was used to reproduce this wax form in acrylic. The next several steps detail production of the three piece silicone mold.

Registration marks were drilled into the cast. Red boxing wax was secured around the periphery of the cast to fascilitate pouring of the silicone.
